Spirit

// commissioned documentary

Spirit was funded as part of a research project at the University of Melbourne. I co-directed the film with Jane Dyson, a geographer and anthropologist who has been visiting the Indian Himalayas for two decades.

Returning to the same village where we filmed an earlier short, Lifelines, this piece tells an intimate story of longing and belonging from a remote community in the thralls of change.

Directors - Jane Dyson and Ross Harrison | Producer - Jane Dyson | Camera and Editor - Ross Harrison | Sound Recordist, Designer and Editor - Nicholas O'Brien | Sound Editor: Benjamin Gale | Colourist: Sam Gilling

Saraswati married into her village 20 years ago as the first educated daughter-in-law.

Now, as she joins the euphoria of the Pandav Lila festival, she recalls her worries, loneliness, and ultimate sense of peace.
